Bed-Bug Pest Control

Bed bugs are flat, reddish-brown, oval insects up to 4 to 5 mm long or the size of an apple seed. Swollen and reddish after a blood meal.Bed bugs only feed on blood. Under cool conditions, bed bugs have been able to survive up to a year without a meal. They prefer to be more active at night when the host is asleep.

Bed bugs are found in cracks and crevices, including mattress seams, sheets, furniture, behind baseboards, electrical outlet plates and picture frames. Often found in hotels, where they can travel from room to room and in visitors’ luggage or other personal belongings such as purses and briefcases.

Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation

As Termites mostly live underground and in the walls of your home, you are unlikely to see the termites themselves. But we can identify the presence of termites by looking at the below mentioned signs:

Seeing the bugs : Adult bed bugs are about the shape and size of an apple seed.
Case skins:As the juvenile bugs grow, they shed their skins, discovery of which can indicate their presence.
Defecation: After feeding, bed bugs return to their harborage to hide where they defecate black to brown stains on porous surfaces or black to brown mounds on nonporous surfaces.

How do you get Bed Bugs?

You can pick up bed bugs almost anywhere — offices, stores, hotels and gyms for starters. They’re great at hiding and have been known to hitchhike in luggage, personal belongings or even you. Once indoors, they can be very difficult to control without the help of an experienced pest specialist. You can reduce your chances of a costly bed bug infestation by catching them early.

BedBugs are BAD for Business :

The major concerns driving the awareness of bed bugs and their impact on business are:
  1. Cost of unavailable personnel due to bed bug bites and associated physical and emotional impacts.
  2. Cost of unavailable rooms to accommodate personnel due to bed bug infestations.
  3. Cost of carrying out inspections and treatments to infested and adjoining rooms.

  4. A small infestation of bed bugs can grow quickly in to thousands. Theoretically an infestation of 5 bed bugs in a room can reach up to 7,000 in just 16 weeks (under ideal circumstances). However, many infestations start with more than just 10 bed bugs and exist for more than 16 weeks prior to detection.
The importance of early detection can not be over-emphasised. At 12 weeks it is conceivable that the occupant of the room is receiving 50 bites every night which subsequently become intensely itchy. Once an infestation becomes large, the risk of other rooms becoming infested is very high. Bed bugs are easily spread from one room to another.
The most common reaction to an accommodation provider would be to move the occupant to another room with little or no thought as to how the person is moved and what personal belongings may be infested. Unwittingly transferring a few bed bugs to the next room starts the cycle again. Similarly if a treatment on a room does not achieve 100% control it is only a matter of weeks before the population has rebounded.
